Japanese Maple acer palmatum "Rising Sun" japonicum). I found this one tree December 10th at the DABG, surrounded by other maples without any color left, and it was difficult to get a photo. This variety must be late for fall color and the leaves are uncommonly large, about 8 inches across. I can visualize a mass planting of them for an outrageous fall color display.
Red, orange, and yellow fall color. Height: 8-10 Feet. Spread: 8-10 Feet. Zoned: 5-8.
