Pittheavlis Castle (5 of 5)
The castle has had a two storey extension added to the back at some stage. The building was owned by the Local Authority and sub-divided into flats, which have (I believe) been sold off in recent times.
In the 16th century, the lands of Pittheavlis were owned by John Ross of Craigie, who sold them in 1586 to Robert Stewart, who must have built the castle. Perhaps being unhappy with the unbalanced proportions of the building he had masterminded, he sold Pittheavlis on to the Oliphant family, Patrick, son of Laurence Oliphant of Bachilton, being served heir to Pittheavlis in 1636.
