Freswick Tower (7 of 7)

The last of the Sinclairs of Freswick House, as it was by then being called, was Admiral Sir Edwyn Sinclair Alexander-Sinclair, 12th laird of Freswick, whose chief claim to fame was that, as commander of the 1st Light Cruiser Squadron, he ordered the firing of the opening shots of the Battle of Jutland! Following his death in 1945, the property went into decline until it was purchased by Captain Gerald Newell of Staffa and his wife Enid, who began the lengthy task of restoring the castle to its former glory. It is presently the home of Mr Murray Watts, who is a writer, film animator and director!
