The Old Place of Mochrum (6)
MacGibbon & Ross' late 19th century drawing of the Old Pace of Mochrum - the only view I have from this, the courtyard side. When this drawing was made, the link block between the two towers had recently been built, however since then, the rest of the courtyard has been entirely closed in.
The old, pre-19th century walled courtyard, had a gatehouse of some sort, to the right of the old tower. This has since been replaced with a new gatehouse and buildings all around the north and east sides of the courtyard.
The original door in the old tower can be seen here, the entrance to the second tower being in the foot of the projecting stair-tower. The small gable at the left end of the old tower's roof, shows us where the internal stairhead is.
David MacGibbon was prone to exaggerating the vertical axis of his drawings!
