Blue Butterfly

I could write a lengthy passage about the design process, pleasure, and inspiration behind this model but I will content myself with a modest description. This is my favorite origami creation that I've ever made.

This Blue Butterfly is my most recent origami design. I have been experimenting with different levels of complexity for bases, and I believe I have found a complexity niche. The base for this design is not overly complex, rather it has simple reference points, and is founded on a water bomb base. The simplicity of the base enriches the folding sequence, as the challenge is not so much in collapsing it but in shaping it. The folding sequence was a pleasure!

The butterfly subject was inspired by one of my all time favorite authors. A man who inspires me in all the facets of my life. Along with writing literature, he was a famous lepidopterist. I am curious if anyone who views this photo knows who the author is. If you know, comment on it!

The design process was straightforward and just as enjoyable as the folding sequence. It took 3 phases; the genesis of the wings, adding grafts for the legs and antennas, and then altering the body to create segments.

I'd love to hear what anyone has to say about this model. Suggestions for improvements and kind words are welcome!
