In 1950, Ralph Edwards, host of popular radio quiz show Truth or Consequences, Hells There Weve been waiting for you" held a publicity contest calling for a town willing to change its name in exchange for a live 10th anniversary coast-to-coast broadcast, a yearly visit, and national publicity. The town's hospitality, style and reputation for health and healing won over Edwards. These qualities remain. From deep rural roots, ranching Did you know... and rodeos, to downtown revitalization, art, culture and preservation, the commitments of residents new and old to celebrate and build this community are abundant. The spirit of Ralph Edwards is still celebrated during the annual Fiesta, held the first weekend in May.
