Small Sam's Club store, in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA.

This small, about 106,000 square foot, Sam's Club store is located in the Eastern part of the City of Gaitherburg, in Montgomery County, Maryland, USA. It is the only Sam's Club store in all of Montgomery County, Maryland, and is at least 20 years old, since a historic aerial image on Google Earth shows that this store was already built in April of 1993. However, it might have originally been built as some other store, and converted into a Sam's Club later, I'm not sure, but seeing as Montgomery County has strict land use and zoning regulations, that might have been what was done here, since that is relatively common practice among retailers in areas with strict zoning ordinances, such as Montgomery County, Maryland. It is because of these strict zoning ordinances that Montgomery County still only has one Wal-Mart store, though that one was actually originally built as a Wal-Mart store in the mid to late 1990's decade, in the community of Germantown, in the County's Northern area. That Wal-Mart store is a Non-Supercenter Wal-Mart of about 149,000 square feet in size which has proposed expanding into an about 167,000 square foot Wal-Mart Supercenter in the same building, but that might take a while, if it ever happens, because of the aforementioned strict land use and zoning ordinances in Montgomery County, Maryland. Gaithersburg is a Northern, middle ring suburb of Washington, DC, located in the Central area of Montgomery County, Maryland, that currently has a young and very diverse population of about 61,000 people, and is growing relatively fast in population. Montgomery County, Maryland is located just North of Washington, DC, is the most populated of the 24 counties in the U.S. state of Maryland, currently has a diverse population of about 990,000 people, and is growing relatively fast in population. Montgomery County, Maryland is the second most populated county in the vast Washington, DC-Baltimore metropolitan area, behind neighboring Fairfax County, Virginia, which is in turn also the most populated county in the U.S. state of Virginia, with an also diverse current population of about 1.1 million people, and growing in population at about the same relatively fast rate as Montgomery County, Maryland.
