The owner says: "DON'T SCRATCH MY CAR!!!"
Taken back in the summer of 1969 at the Coast Guard yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland. Here’s the "buoy gang" of Coast Guard Cutter Cowslip working on loading one of several crew members' cars onto the ship prior to departing for South Portland, Maine the following morning. A few of the crew had arranged to have their vehicle transported to Maryland, to use while the ship was in drydock for hull and other work. I don't remember how it was determined who got to have their car make the trip, but I do remember that loading them onto the buoy deck was a "twitchy" process, very nerve-wracking for their owners. Space was limited, but I seem to remember four vehicles crammed onto the deck, then lashed down with chains. The guy in the center with the white hard hat and T-shirt is a CPO in charge of loading. Despite the crowded deck and all the shifting of deck gear and vehicles, none were scratched or dinged.
I think this car is a Mercury Comet, maybe around a 1964.
