Abandoned house, Pereau Road, Lower Blomidon, Nova Scotia
Here's an abandoned house on Pereau Road, about a half mile above Mill Creek and about a half mile below Hiltz Brook. The house is gone now, with only a barn remaining... just off the left side of the photo. I've taken pics here on a number of occasions, beginning around 1980 and was disappointed to find on later trips that it had been torn down. This photo was taken in late December of 1984 less than an hour before sunset. Photos taken during the summer at mid-day were OK, but I REALLY LIKE the low angle light seen here.
I was traveling with several cameras, a Nikon F3HP, a Wollensak Stereo 10 3d camera, and my favorite... a small (6x9cm) century Graphic, which I used for this image. I liked working with the Graphic, enjoyed focusing on its ground glass screen... working with an upside-down and reversed image. Focusing wide open then stopping down, attaching the film back, then shooting was a slow process. One thing that was a pain during the summer was the chance of having a black fly or mosquito get inside the camera while swapping out the ground glass back for the roll holder. It has happened several times over the years, but only at times of incredibly severe levels of bug activity.
This image was taken with my old 6x9 cm Century Graphic. The lens was a 105mm f/3.7 Ektar in a Kodak Flash Supermatic shutter, using a Graflex Singer 120 roll film holder loaded with Ektachrome 100 film. It was copied digitally using a Nikon D3500 camera, a 55mm Micro-Nikkor lens, with a Nikon 4T close-up lens, and a Sigma 1.6x close-up lens mounted on the 4T.
