Put your money where your mouth is!

Today being the anniversary of the death of the last queen of Bosnia, I decided my way of honoring her was to get this handbag from BHCrafts It was made by a woman named Sajima. All the women who produce goods for this company are persons who are still internally displaced and living in often very precarious and difficult circumstances.

There are many lovely reasonably priced items in the BHCrafts shop in Bascarcija and it's one way of ensuring that something you buy in BiH as a souvenir directly helps a refugee, and directly helps the local economy.

I love going to Bascarcija, it's a lot of fun, but I feel sad that very few actual Bosnian made items are for sale there. Most items there actually come from India. Now I have nothing against India or Indian made goods, they too benefit the local economy at least somewhat, but it's better to support Bosnian home industries.

The newspaper is 'Oslobodenje' a very good local paper, that continued to publish and was distributed FREE in the war times. The page has mention of the last queen of Bosnia, it's her death anniversary today, and two separate small articles made mention of this fact.

What I like about this bag, is that it almost is like Native American work.
