Throwback Thursday (530)

This week we are going back thirty-two years to 1994 and to KD 306 parked on Aston Quay, dressed for route 50.

The DUTC started running the first route 50 between the city centre and Crumlin, going via Dolphin's Barn, in 1925. In the early-1990s it reached Willington Roundabout. In mid-1994, possibly a week after this photo was taken, route 50 was replaced by new City Imp route 150.

At the same time a new version of route 50 was introduced which operated between the city centre and Tallaght. In 1998 that southern terminus was extended from Killinarden to Citywest. In 2006 the city centre terminus was moved to Ringsend Road. The route ceased to operate in 2011 under Network Direct changes in the Tallaght area.

KD 306 was new to CIE in 1983. It was withdrawn by Dublin Bus in 2000, the last year of KD operation in the capital city.
