Passing Junk on the Sprague

The morning was a work morning somewhere on the CN Sprague Subdivision, so the railroad was quiet and the signals void of any movements in the area. There are many interesting scenic locations in the area to spend time while waiting for something to shake out - my favorite being the Clementson Wayside Park on the Rainy River east of Baudette. I also highly recommend Zippel Bay State Park. Canadian Shield rock outcroppings are visible in the park along with great views of Lake of the Woods.

Around 14.00 the railroad finally came to life. First train was this eastbound manifest quickly approaching Baudette passing some rusting farm equipment. This train has had a clear run through the American portion of the Sprague Subdivision and will meet traffic waiting in the siding at Sleeman in Ontario.

This shot was a bit of a nail-biter as Minnesota Highway 11 stands between every angle looking north, plus add the fact that school was out and students were starting to disperse. I nearly got blocked by a passing tanker visible exiting the frame, but it did not wreck the moment.
