House Bryanston - Addition

Design Mine's clients who live in this Bryanston house enjoy outdoor activities, such as hunting and 4x4ing, and found that the existing house does not offer them the space or facilities they require. We were thus appointed to design an addition to accommodate a meat room, double garage for their 4x4s, and new staff accommodation.

After an analysis of the existing house, Design Mine found that the house does not allow for comfortable outdoor living. Our concept was then to open the edges of the house up onto new patios, one for the living area where guests will be entertained, and one private area outside the bedrooms. The new outdoor living area links to the garage and workshop area that the clients will use regularly.

The architecture of the existing house is distinctly typical of its era and area and Design Mine wanted to create an architecture that does not mimic this but also not compete with it. Instead of designing another pitched roof structure, Design Mine opted for an understated flat roof addition with clean lines and functional spaces.
