Greater Scaup (c)
A Trip to WWT Slimbridge in mid August. It was very quite and not much seen.
Weather was sunny intervals.
Wild birds were very sparse so this trip is a mixture of Wild and Collection (c) Birds.
There was plenty of groundwork and tidying up going on by the reserve wardens and groundkeepers to get ready for the arrival of the birds that over Winter on the outer fields at Slimbridge.
The Greater Scaup is a diving duck and is closely related to the Lesser Scaup though larger. It spends the summer months breeding in Alaska, Northern Canada, Siberia and the Northmost parts of Europe.
