Hopkins Recreation

For this project I chose to replicate one of Avril Lavigne's album covers. This picture meets the project goals because I attempted to replicate the lighting and composition of a source image. To take this picture I had my sister stand in front of a black sheet in our basement. I put the camera on a tripod and then had someone else hold a bright lamp right above the camera so that there was no shadows on her face except for the one beneath her chin. I directed my sister on how to hold her head and where to look so that she looked to be in the same position as Avril. In Photoshop, I had to do a lot of editing to make this picture even resemble the real thing. I used layer masks to turn up the brightness and highlights on her face excluding the lips and eyes. After that I made the black background darker and darkened the black around her eyes. I also had to change her eyes to blue since they were originally green. From there I just did a bunch of little things to try and take away the yellowish tint that her skin still had because Avril's skin looked to be almost pure white on the album. I also darkened certain parts of the hair and used the smudge tool to make her ears look a little more balanced like the original. I also tried using the smudge tool to make her chin and jaw more like the picture, but it ended up looking too unnatural. Overall, I don't really think this picture replicated the original that well and its not what I was thinking it would look like.
