We recently created the HEM-KIT (Home Emergency Medical Kit) with the shows survival experts. The kit was designed to address emergencies that not only happen in and around the home but even more so in the event of an emergency or disaster in your community where you need to be prepared to care for yourself. Why? Hospitals may be swarmed with people already, or not accessible. Or possibly it is a medical outbreak of some kind where you do not want to be around a lot of people. You need to be able to take care of most medical needs yourself. This includes everything from safe drinking water, medicine and treatment of large wounds. It can often be safer to stabilize a patient in a safe place while arranging for further medical attention after the initial panic of an event.
