Winning Classic
The Miki Miki class of wooden tugs built for the US Army during World War II are often considered to be one of the best tugboat designs, aesthetically, of all time. However, of the 61 built, only 4 of these beautiful tugs are known to survive, with two in the Seattle area. This one in particular, now Galene, was built in 1944 as LT 464. After the war, she was sold as Richard, and later renamed Polar Sea before acquiring her current identity.
In this capture, the Galene is seen roaring forward from the starting line of the 2013 Seattle Maritime Festival tugboat races. She would go on to best her 7 competitors and win this year's Class C harbor tug class.
