This is a small carved soapstone box (about 4in/10cm long) that my husband brought back many years ago from the then Soviet Union. He knew I really liked owls.
Today, many of you will be watching the Super Bowl. I'm not a much of a football fan, so a few years ago when people started talking about "superb owl day" I loved it. Apparently a lot of people made typos when searching for "super bowl" and instead got results for "superb owl." How great is that! Anyway, although I can more or less hold my own in a discussion about American football - due to a number of fans in my family - I'd much rather think about owls than football, so here is my contribution for today.
