Mosque

My favorite mosque in Cairo, the Ibn Tulun Mosque is arguably the oldest existing mosque in Egypt, dating back to the ninth century. Note the standard features of any mosque - the ablution fountain in the center, and the minaret in the far back left. The architect contracted to design the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar was inspired by the architectural structure of the ablution station of the Ibn Tulun Mosque, and incorporated it into his design for the museum. The beauty of the Ibn Tulun Mosques comes from the structural angles and precise geometric patterns of the windows and arches, and the embellishments on the walls remain minimal.
