Wrap-around Spider
This is the only time I've noticed one of these spiders in our garden. It was on our bush house, I suspect after its web was disturbed by something falling on it. Its usual habitat may be a banksia which has branches of a similar colour, right next to the bush house.
These spiders have the habit of wrapping themselves around a twig or flattening against bark. The upper surface of the abdomen resembles a cone shaped shield. It is composed mostly of a series of roughly circular discs each with a small slit in the centre. The lower surface of the abdomen is curved. These spiders rest during the day and build large vertical orb webs at night.
