Spotted Sandpiper at Poppoff, Yakima, WA 2014-02-11 ©Kevin S Lucas
No eBird checklist submitted.
Documentation photo - poor quality phone digiscoped image. View through scope was excellent.
This Spotted Sandpiper was a few hundred yards downstream in the Yakima River from where Loretta Olson found & photographed one in early January. It was constantly tail bobbing, and often took short flights low across the water in the style characteristic of Spotted Sandpipers. It's legs were yellow. It vocalized several times as it flew. White curving up on side at base of neck is characteristic of SPSA. Several times it paused, bobbing away near a resting Wilson's Snipe, seeming to be asking the snipe to come play with it. It was fun to watch. I found it there yesterday, when I got to watch it stop & preen for some time.
