"Device to Root Out Evil"
Ramsay, Calgary
This sculpture by New York artist Dennis Oppenheim was rejected by Stanford University, his alma mater, and subsequently purchased by a Vancouver foundation who erected it in Harbour Green Park in downtown Vancouver. Controversy followed the upside-down church and the Vancouver Public Parks Committee voted to remove it. Calgary's Glenbow Museum jumped at the opportunity to display it and here it seems to have found a home.
