Rocket Flower

Eruca sativa also known as salad rocket, roquette, rucola, rugula, colewort and in the United States, arugula. We've grown it for the first time this year and it grows really well here! In addition to the leaves, the flowers can be used in salads as an edible garnish. The young seed pods and mature seeds are all edible. Also.......it was grown as an edible herb in the Mediterranean area since Roman times and salad rocket was mentioned by various classical authors as an aphrodisiac and most famously in a poem long ascribed to Virgil, Moretum, which contains the line: "et veneris revocans eruca morantuem" translates as the rocket excites the sexual desire of drowsy people....so now you know. Of course I wanted to grow it because it's rich in vitamin C and potassium :)
