buttercups, those shiny bright yellow little flowers that are thugs in my gardens.

known as ranunculus, the buttercups kind, they should grow in faraway wild meadows, not in garden bogs or fields of flowers. when weeded you discover the roots go to china, they root at every node, and when pulled using a japanese hoe, my favorite tool, they bring up several pounds of mud.
