Newport Station, XP64 experimental stock, 29 May 1965
The full rake of eight experimental carriages known as the XP64 set are seen on the 9.00am Paddington to Swansea train hauled by a Brush type 4 as it leaves Newport. The rake consisted of three Corridor Firsts, two Corridor Seconds, and three Tourist Second Opens and were built by Derby Carriage Works in 1964. They resembled Mark 1 stock but inside they included many new features, including pressure ventilation, new seating designs and wider bi-fold doors.
