The York Ghost Merchants shop, Shambles, York (WiP 3)
Putting the finishing touches to the shop front of 6 Shambles, the retail base of the York Ghost Merchants. The shop opened in 2019, "under the sign of the inverted torches" to sell miniature ghost figures. These are hand made, in two sizes and many colour schemes and, thanks to a large social media following, become something special. In autumn 2021 it has been common to have queue for up to an hour to go inside. The shop front was built in the 1980s, replacing older timber work as the building has been used as a shop, including several butcher's and a bread shop, since the early 19th century. The owner of York Ghost Merchants regularly organises charity ghost hunts, including one to which I was invited to contribute. The success of the ghost business led to long queues of visitors in the autumn of 2021. Drawn with a Pentel GraphGear 0.3mm pencil and Tombow Mono Zero eraser in an A4 cartridge paper sketchbook.
