The Debtors Prison, York

The Debtors Prison was built as the new county gaol in 1705, replacing earlier buildings of York Castle which had been used as prison buildings. This included several of the towers of the medieval castle. The drawing will show part of the motte and Clifford's Tower. In the foreground is the approximate site of the Waud mansion, built at the beginning of the 18th century and incorporating Clifford's Tower in its garden. Drawn with a Pentel 0.3mm mechanical pencil and Tombow Mono Zero eraser in an A4 cartridge paper sketchbook.
