Officer Keith Swank
This is a photograph of police officer Keith Swank. Mr. Swank was one of the police officers that patrolled the area around Garfield High School from 1990-2005. He explained that the height of gang activity in the vicinity of Garfield High School was in the early 90's. The area was rife with Crips, Bloods, and members of the Black Gangster Disciples (BGD) gang. The AM/PM on 23rd and Cherry was a hot spot for gang violence. Mr. Swank said on one night on his watch there were three unrelated shootings at the AM/PM. Mr. Swank's duty around Garfield ended in 2005 and he was stationed elsewhere in the Central Area. -Alec G.
