04 Melarhaphe neritoides

Specimens heavily eroded, probably by acid rain. Only small areas of brown-black periostracum remain. Periostracal flap well exposed on bottom centre specimen; used to seal shell to substrate in hot dry weather to reduce dehydration.

Heights 5.5 mm -7.5 mm. Photographed in air; colours appear brighter when in water. April 2012. Portland Bill, Dorset, England.
