LCC-GC2-The Hog's Cure-Build 2-Main

It wasn’t until a full day’s journey that they’d reached the town. The sun was just about to set. All was silent except for a chattering brook near by.

Marcurio: Well, this is it. The Hog’s Cure. What an obscure name.

Boethius: You said he was a bit crazed?

Marcurio: Well not crazed, but just odd.

Boethius: Great! He’ll fit right in.

They entered the obscure shop and a bell rang twice on the door. From the back someone shuffled and groaned.

Nels: I’ll be right with you! Just give me a second!

He came out of a back room polishing his glasses. They seemed to have a little bit of green residue on the rim.

Nels: Sorry. Had a little incident in the back. Exploding frog…What do you need? A potion? Elixir? Cure? Maybe a “cook book”? Ingredients? I have them all. If you’ve got the coin of course.

He put on his glasses and looked up.

Nels: Wait a second. Marcurio?! Is that you? You old coot!

Marcurio: The same could be said of you friend.

Nels: Who’s this?

Marcurio: This is my old friend’s son Boethius. He’s quite the coot himself.

Nels: It’s nice to me you Boethius. What can I do for you two?

Marcurio: Well, we need your help. Well rather your wisdom on the subject.

Nels: Don’t tell me. You’re looking for the sword aren’t you?

Boethius: Yes. Have others come to you?

Nels: Oh yes. I may be a little bit crazy, but I am quite wise. And foolish. Too foolish for my own good I think. A little bit too wise as well.

He said this with a little smile on his face. Both Boethius and Marcurio looked at each other and shot a look, then looked back at Nels.

Boethius: What’s that supposed to mean?

Nels: Well a couple of fellows, much like you, have come in here proclaiming their importance. So I play along and act as if I’m impressed at who they are and what they have achieved. Then they say. “Oy, old man! Have you heard of the sword of Karlamac?”

“Oh why yes who hasn’t?”

“Well do you know where it is perhaps?”

“Yes, I do!”

Nels: At this point I make up some story about how it’s lost in the great deserts of Loreos, or it be somewhere in these forests. Or maybe if they’re really “important”, I’ll send then to the Cold mountains up north.

Boethius: So, let me get this straight you’ve been sending all these knights, in the wrong direction, on purpose?

Nels: Yep.

Boethius: I like this guy. He’s got so smarts.

Nels: So would you boys like to know where the sword really is?

Boethius: Yes sir.

Marcurio: Of course that’s why we came to you.

Nels: Well, the funny story is, I don’t know where it is.

He said this with a chuckle. Again Boethius and Marcurio shot each other a look. Boethius said under his breath to Marcurio,

Boethius: You said he would know.

Marcurio: I thought he might.

Nels: But I can give you a little advice on where to start.

Boethius: Where would that be then?

Nels: Well you’d need to go to the Library of-

Marcurio: Nels. We don’t even know if that exists. It’s been lost longer than the sword we’re after.

Nels: Then you’d need somebody with a pretty good memory, and that was a couple hundred years old. I’m sorry boys.

Marcurio: It’s ok Nels. Here’s a little payment for your troubles.

Nels: Well I can’t accept this-

Marcurio: Take it. I still have a little bit of money left over from back in my day.

Nels: Sorry again boys.

And with that sorry, they stepped out of the potions shop. It was quite chilly now because the sun had already set. All the light that was left was the light from inside the homes and shops.

Boethius: Great. We traveled all this way, for nothing.

Marcurio: Well maybe not. I have a person in mind that may know where the sword is.

Boethius: Is he 300 years old too?

Marcurio: Better, he’s around 350.

Boethius head shot up. He pondered the statement for a few seconds. Then his pupils got wider, and his eyebrows started to sag down. He had a scowl on his face. Even more so the he normally did.

Boethius: No! You know I hate him. He sold me out and I was on the run for a whole month in Loreos. I had to sleep in barns with camels! Camels Marcurio!

Marcurio: He’s the only person I know who’s over 200 years old.

Boethius: He’s so self centered. And pretentious.

Marcurio: We only need him for directions.

Boethius: Fine. But he lives all the way on the other side of Lenfald. Where his “throne” is.

Marcurio: It’s a little over a 3 days travel

Boethius: Well let’s just find an inn or something because I’m not doing this trek at night. The wolves will eat us alive.
