The Ivy
On a recent visit to Exeter Cathedral in Devon I was unable to get a satisfactory exterior image as contractors working on the building had left their vehicles parked everywhere! We wandered around the inside of the Cathedral which was a worthwhile experience.
On leaving, I noticed this impressive neo classical building which was originally a city centre bank but now like so many others closed down! Although it only dates from the early 19th century, it is a grade 2 listed structure which gives it legal protection from demolition or major alteration without prior approval from the local authority – Exeter City Council.
I cannot imagine that its acquisition and refurbishment by the Ivy restaurant chain was easy and probably cost a considerable amount of money.
