Sascha 1

None of this series are very sharp, but they truly capture the essence of this magnificent dog. In order to appreciate this interchange between he and I one must first know our history.

Sascha is a rescue, he was quite a small boy when M got him, but grew into a huge lab, with a few issues. It seems that at his last rescue via the spca he couldn't walk and was oozing from sores on his flanks. They shaved him and found over 30 puncture wounds on both of his hips. Nobody knows what was being injected, as nobody really knew who his owners were. M took him in, nursed him, treated him with incredible respect and gentleness, and he is now her protector.

When I met him he didn't particularly care about me.....and when I unknowingly patted his flank area he went into attack mode. All he ever does in this mode is to raise a lip (I call it his Elvis lip) and give a very low growl. But after this transgression on my part we both have agreed to avoid each other.

Last year when I went to visit M, Sascha was the first to greet me, jumped up, put his front feet on my shoulders and nestled into my neck. Of course at first you can imagine what must have been going through my mind, I truly thought I was a dead person.

However as the days went by, he continued to woo me. M and I were goofing around trying to get some "girlie" shots on the diving board, and Sascha made his move. This is his first approach to me, and his body language says everything.
