Ayer railroad signal tower

I thought this was abandoned but I saw railroad employees going in there, so I guess not. But all the windows are blocked, which for a control tower seems kind of strange. Either modern switching operations have surpassed the need to actually look at the tracks, or this building is used for a different railroad-related purpose.
