Solar Pilar 2

These photos are untouched. They were taken just before 10am in Yellowknife in 2005. That is where the sun is at 10 am in Yellowknife at 10 am in January. It was probably less than -30 degrees C out too.

A solar pillar is quite unusual and easy to loose. It is created by the reflection a sunlight on the horizontal face of ice cristals. So, a quiet atmosphere is needed in order that this cristals stay parallel to the horizon
