ADVENTURES INTO THE UNKNOWN ( ACG )
# 1 Fall 1948 - # 174 August 1967
During the twilight of the super-heroes in the 1950s, science fiction and horror comics were the hottest thing on the newsstands, and this title was one of the pioneers of the genre. Each issue served up three or four short stories featuring alien attacks, post-atomic nightmares, bug-eyed monsters, unexplained phenomena, and other meat-and-potatoes 1950s science-fantasy themes. Adventures into the Unknown was broad enough in format to allow straight mystery and suspense stories side by side with hardcore science fiction, horror, and monsters.
The ACG art and writing staff lacked the talent of the big publishers like EC, Atlas (Marvel), and DC, but managed to produce clean, workmanlike art and entertaining stories.
