Millet field after harvest

Millet is one of Africa's staple crops. Smallholder farmers rely on crops like millet to feed their families and earn income from any surplus they grow in a good year.

By digging zai, shallow holes in the ground which collect rainwater and organic material, the ground is made more fertile. Something so simple has been proven to increase the amount of crops farmers produce by 50% after just 3 years.
