Presque Isle Harbor Light

Several lighthouses have been built at the Presque Isle Harbor on the southern shore of Lake Superior. The first two, at the end of a breakwater pier were washed away by storms in 1886, and in 1889. Other, more substantial lighthouses and breakwaters were constructed, the last serving until 1985, when an electrified steel tower with a red beacon light was installed at the end of a 1500 foot extension of the breakwater. This lighthouse is also known as the Marquette Upper Harbor Light.
