"I Am NOT Bald!"
Bald Eagles, once headed toward extinction in the 1950s-60s, have rebounded after DDT (pesticide) was banned. They were removed from the U.S. Endangered Species List in 2007.
"Bald" comes from an Old English word "Balde", meaning "White". Adult Bald Eagles have the distinctive pure white head and tail.
Seen at the Detroit Zoo, in a large open-air environment.
