St. Mary's Cathedral Sydney City

Scavenge Challenge #21 - Focus on an architectural detail. Use shadow and light to show its detail

St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cathedral is dedicated to “Mary, Help of Christians”, Patron of Australia. The largest church in Australia, it is located in the heart of the City of Sydney where, “…..despite an abundance of high rise buildings, its imposing structure and twin spires make it a landmark from every direction…..”

Its size and position made it very difficult to photograph without capturing countless people and traffic so I opted to shoot between Theseus and the Minotaur. This sculpture is one of the components of the J.F. Archibald Memorial Fountain, located in Hyde Park, directly opposite the side entrance to the Cathedral. I’ve employed artistic licence to ensure Theseus passes the “family friendly” criteria – apologies to the sculptor ( I didn’t know whether it was applicable to artworks)
