47826 "Springburn" at Crewe Station 20/06/2006
15.31: 47826 named "Springburn" sits on the buffers with 153367 behind it about to depart.
47826 started life as D1976 when it was built at BR Crewe Works and delivered to BR on 24/11/1965.
It became 47274 under TOPS in September 1974 and then 47637 when its steam heat boiler was removed and replaced with ETH in January 1986.
It then became 47826 in May 1989 when it received the extended range fuel tanks needed for cross country work.
One of the last Class 47s working on passenger services after privatisation, it was finally stood down from Virgin Trains Cross Country services on 15/08/2004 from the Willesden ATLO pool.
Like many of the last Virgin Class 47s, it carried a pet livery from the past (in this case the Intercity swallow livery).
After less than a year of storage, it was bought on 07/05/2005 by WCRC - West Coast Railway Company, Carnforth.
Almost 17 years later in February 2022, it is still active for WCRC working charters and moving stock around the country.
Great result for a loco now only a few years off it's 60th birthday 😊👍
