max was blind due to a fight with Padre the spitting cobra, but the loss of his sight made max even more insightful and dangerous. his shack was inhabited by dozens of small owls who swarmed around max helping him in clever ways. drifter often forgot that max couldnt see due to his keen nose and his helpful birds.
