Near this place lie the remains of John son and heir of William Barnston of Churton esq ...1661 . He married Alice sole heiress of Thomas Trafford of Bridge-Trafford esq by whom he had issue one son Trafford Barnston who m Letitia daughter of Roger Owen of Condover 1718 flic.kr/p/qRehv4

She married to her second husband ye Hon Richard Savage by whom she had one son who became John Earl Rivers. She died Oct ye 23 1666 and was buried at Plegminstall near Chester

 

Here lyes the remains of William Barnston of Churton esq . He married Dorothy Brooke daughter of Thomas Brooke of Little Sankye esq and sister to Sir Richard Brooke of Norton Kt: He was a person of great worth & entegrety and ventured his life & fortune with King Charles the first. He was sent prisoner from Oxford to London where he continued till he paid his composition for his estate, he dyed ye 8th of March 1664"

William Barnston was largely responsible for the restoration of the church in 1658. A well respected man, he had been one of Charles I's close advisers at the Siege of Chester in 1645, in 1662 he commissioned the Civil War window www.flickr.com/photos/52219527@N00/7493618348/ , to commemorate the Royalist defenders of Chester.
