John Daye, was a Bachelor of Divinity at Oriel College, Oxford, and his will describes his writing on the psalms and the 190 lectures he had delivered on the subject. He also decreed that every householder in the village be given a copy of his own book, "Daye's Descant on David's Psalms".
His brother Lional Daye, provost of Eton, erected the monumentis. himself being almost a sexagenarian and sole survivor of 26 brothers and sisters, in daily expectation of death" Posuit Lionellus Daye: pene sexagenarius, ex viginti et sexfratribus et sororibus solus superstes, indies expectans mortem".
