Monument with the portrait of Charles Bosanquet 1850
"to the memory of Charles Bosanquet of Hamptead in the county of Middlesex, and of Rock in the county of Northumberland, esquire, second son of Samuel Bosanquet of Forest House in the county of Essex, esquire, and of Eleanor his wife daughter of Henry Lannoy Hunter of Beechill in the county of Berks, esquire.
Born July 23rd 1769
Married in 1796 Charlotte Ann Holford daughter of Peter Holford of Westonbirt in the county of Gloucester, esquire. Her monument is in this church
He was many years governor of the South Sea Company. As governor of the Canada Land Company he was instrumental in bringing into cultivation vast tracts of land in Canada West. He was yet more extensively known as colonel of the Light Horse Volunteers of London and Westminster. After the peace of 1816 he for some years fulfilled the duties of a commissioner of military enquiry. He also for a considerable space of time filled the chair of the Exchequer Loan Commission
These various occupations did not cause him to neglect his landed estate at Rock, nor to forget the interests temporal and spiritual of those who dwelt upon it.
He completed the division of the estate into farms. He restored the church which he found in a ruinous state;
Rebuilt the village and repaired and added to the old mansion which having been destroyed by fire, had lain in ruins for above 70 years. Finally he became resident at Rock with his family, and having survived his wife by a space of eleven years, he departed this life on the 20th of June 1850 aged 81 years
Thy testimonies were his delight and his counsellors"

As the inscription says Charles in 1806 restored the church which by that time was unfit for worship. A timber gallery was constructed in 1824 over the west door to provide a pew for his large family and household in the Hall.
After his death, his son Rev. Robert William Bosanquet in 1855 decided that further improvements should be carried out, employing architect Anthony Salvin, who was living mainly at Alnwick to supervise the Duke of Northumberland's alterations at Alnwick Castle. This involved the building of the semi-circular apse at the east end of the chancel, the rebuilding of the vestry, and the restoration of the old Norman and Early English windows, In 1866 he added a north aisle

The Bosanquet family were of Huguenot origin. The family fled to England from Lunel, Montpellier, France, in 1685 following the revocation of the edict of Nantes.
The first settler in England, David Bosanquet, became a banker and merchant, enabling the family to settle at Forest House, Essex.
David's grandson, Samuel Bosanquet (1744-1806), Governor of the Bank of England, purchased Dingestow in 1801.
Samuel's sons, Samuel (1768-1843), made Dingestow his chief seat and was sheriff of Monmouthshire in 1841 & Charles (of this monument)
