'*The monument of Richard Hovell of Hillington in the county of Norfolk, esquire who, being of the age of 77 years and upwards, finished his course in charity with all men and now resteth here with expectation of the resurrection in assurance of eternal glorification the 30th of November 1611. Margery Hovell, wife of the aforesaid Richard Hovell, deceased and one of the daughters and heires of John Ford of Frating in the county of Essex, Esq who having lived virtuously and comfortably with her said husband 44 years, did beare unto him 4 sons and 9 daughters whereof there are yet 12 alive to her great comfort being all growne to the perfect state of men and women"
Richard was the son of William Hovel of Stratfield Hall, Hadleigh by Ann daughter of Richard Turner of Norton
Richard had acquired the manor of Hillington in 1610
He m Margery daughter of John Ford of Frating & Horsley, sister of John Ford of Thorpe

His son Richard fought on the king's side during the Civil War, he had occupied King’s Lynn in 1643, but escaped without penalty. He built the first Hillington Hall in 1624
