Fixed - Terrington St Clement

15c Stone font with 16c cover, painted with scenes and text relating to the baptism & temptation of Christ, with the 4 evangelists pictured at the top . It used to be telescopic being pulled upwards to reveal the font. However this facility was lost when the paintings were inserted possibly in late 17c and the cover fixed forever in a part raised position. The panels are thought to be of Flemish origin perhaps given by the Bentinck lords of the manor who came over from Holland with William of Orange and who were given the manor in 1689

In 1788 £10 was paid for the gilding of the "font and screen" - Church of St Clement , Terrington Norfolk
