Crossing Opens Tonight

Schaeffer is the founder and artistic director of the Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. He has won numerous awards, including the 2002 Washingtonian of the Year and six Helen Hayes Awards for Outstanding Direction. Conner, who graduated from Shenandoah in 1997 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre degree, has been performing, composing, teaching and music directing in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area for the last 10 years. He has composed for several of Signature Theatre’s world-premiere productions, including “Partial Eclipse” and “Nevermore.” With a book by Grace Barnes, “Crossing” tells the story of multiple generations interconnecting in a train station. The show is inspired by Harriet Tubman, who displayed the willingness to risk her life in the struggle towards freedom. “Crossing” is presented at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday, March 31, April 1 and 2, and at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 3, in the Glaize Studio Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and $10 for students. Complimentary tickets are available in advance for employees and students with SU I.D. Contact the box office at 540/665-4569.
