Foundations (Traditional Pembrokeshire Field Boundary)

Pembrokeshire's field boundaries primarily consist of traditional hedgebanks, often locally known as Cloddiau or Clawdds, and dry-stone walls. These structures, built from turf covered stone walls topped with hedging, also act as field boundaries and windbreaks for domesticated animals, as well as providing a habitat for wildlife. They contribute significantly to the county's distinctive landscape and historical character. Because of their cultural, wildlife, and landscape value, both the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and the Pembrokeshire County Council support their restoration and maintenance .
