Dishevelled motorised New Plymouth Crossley trolleybus No. 2 at Masterton 20/10/2003

A refresh of the dieselised trolleybus (but still retained its trolley poles) captured where it ended its days at the late Wayne Little's property in Masterton.

The trolleybus used an engine from a school bus at Porongahau, and the engine was mounted centrally under the floor, and it actually intruded into the passenger area being covered by a lid when operating.

Until the gearbox operation could be sorted it was necessary for a second person to ride above the engine and change gears manually.

It was finally sorted by adopting the method used on Ansair Flxible Clippers, with a long rod going from the rear of the engine to beside the driver, linked to a normal gear lever arrangement. Was a beast to drive and it ended up with the gears about face.

It was also very underpowered.
