Audio Log 2-7: Battle of Maine; Holding the Line
After hauling gear for a while, we finally arrived at our designated position, a small barricade near the front. We quickly set up a chaingun, which X insisted on operating. Klip prepared his machine gun next to him, and the other new guy in our group readied a pistol. Interesting choice, but who was I to judge? I put one foot up on the small wall, and readied my rifle. I could already hear the yells of approaching Urags. Soon, they would be on us...
I heard their yells, and then saw the first one poke its head out from a corner. I fired, and was rewarded with the sight of it falling to the ground, dead. and then more came, seeping out of the woodwork. I heard the chain gun begin to spin, and then unleash a swarm of bullets. It was effective, mowing down Urags left and right. But more just kept coming. Klip's machine gun kept firing, hardly pausing to find a new target. I myself fired judiciously, killing hordes of Urags with my deadly accuracy. We were holding them off, killing them faster than they could come. But that wasn't the story everywhere. I heard a voice coming from the radio, "All Units, fall back! We can't hold them!"
I knew that if the positions around us fell, we would be easily flanked by the enemy. I barked, "All units! Fall back to Rally Point Bravo!" Klip and the other pistol-wielding newcomer acknowledged, and began to grab what little gear they had. I saw Urag artillery begin to move in from a side street...
X was still firing the chaingun, despite my orders. I yelled at him to come on, but he wouldn't budge. Angrily, I grabbed the back of his armor, and dragged him bodily away from the gun. When I had dragged him about 5 meters back, an artillery shell landed right on the chaingun. I was almost knocked down, but my low center of gravity kept me upright. I turned the kid around, and yelled to his face, "What the hell was that? Always follow orders, immediately! You could have gotten us all killed!" Not waiting to hear his response, I jogged up to Klip, and we all headed for the fall back point. Hopefully, Cryptid would blow the ship soon...
